How to Choose the Best Vacation Accommodations
Often people depend on guidebooks and rating systems to select their vacation
accommodations. Both of these approaches assume that your needs and perceptions
are identical to those of the writer.
Online forums and review sites are the least trustworthy. The reviewer may be
a friend of the owner or, worse, be someone with a personal reason for posting
bad reviews about a perfectly fine establishment.
Doing your own research is by far the best way to choose accommodations that are
right just right for you. Before you start, make a list of your personal priorities.
Do you like interaction with other guests, or do you prefer complete privacy? Do
you prefer to dine alone rather than enjoying the company of others? Do you need
lodging that accepts children and pets or adults only? Do you perfer your room have
a personal flair all its own, or a clutter free room identical to all the others?
Are you comfortable sharing a common bath, or do you require your own private
facilities? If you're sensitive to temperature, you may also want to limit your
selections to establishments with thermostates in every room.
Typically, the smaller the establishment, the more personal and less private it
will be. Hotels and Motels can be very impersonal and very private, while a Country
Inn or Bed & Breakfast will be much more personal, yet less private.
For most people, price is always a major consideration. Don't overlook the value
being offered by personal services such as a full gourmet breakfast or an elegant
environment. Often, those not only add substantially to the cost, but equally to
the value and your personal pleasure.
Jane's Guide to Vacation Travel Lodging offers something for everyone, so take your
time and be sure to contact each establishment you feel might meet your personal needs.
